AmVets

The AmVets (American Veterans Association) members became active members of the East End Rod & Gun club in 2000, for the opportunity to target shoot as a group. The 3rd Sunday of the month is the day our Veterans group is assigned to use the range. Our goal is to make the range available to all veterans, their families, supporters and East End Rod & Gun club members for the opportunity to shoot and talk about firearms and reloading.

The AmVets would like to encourage all East End Rod & Gun club members who are veterans to join our group. Any veterans who have served honorably or are currently serving are invited to join. Our membership is made up of Cold War, peacetime and wartime veterans. We meet at the Golden West Estates Mobile Home Park recreation room on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. There is a family potluck at 6:00 pm and a meeting at 7:00. Guests are welcome at all of our activities and we encourage you to include your family in our organization.

The annual dues are $25.00

Range Usage

Overall range availability is at the discretion of the Board.

Normally live fire recreational shooting for all members and their guests takes place daily. The Range is open from 8:00 a.m. to ½ hour before sunset Monday thru Friday, and from 9.00 a.m. to ½ hour prior to sunset on Saturday and Sunday. End shooting time for each day is posted at the entry gate.

The Range is under the control of the Board of the East End Rod and Gun Club.

All decisions as to Range operation and safety are at the discretion of the Board, but must follow the guidelines put forth in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

The Board, or the club President has the authority to shut down the range if it is deemed necessary.

In extreme cases, such as an accident or an unruly person as defined in Chapter 6, of the SOPs, the Range should be closed down and the proper authorities (Fire & Rescue Squad and/or County Sheriff) notified. The President, Chief Range Safety Officer, and the Board should also be notified as soon as possible.

Any club member using this facility on there own must have attended a Range Orientation and have had a New Member Assessment done.

Due to the dangers of lead exposure, no person is allowed to pick up used lead from the range without the knowledge of and permission by the Board.

We would like to remind everyone to please clean up after yourselves when you are using the range. There have been reports that someone has been shooting glass bottles and obviously that is not something we want to see. It creates a huge mess and a hazard for other people who are using the range. Use the existing target stands to affix your targets and if you bring out plastic bottles or something like that, please clean up the mess and take it home with you. We appreciate your “packing it out, if you pack it in.”

The calendar of scheduled events is linked above, please refer to that before you go out to the range. If you are at the range when one of these events is taking place, contact the person in charge to see if arrangements can be made for you to shoot. Those events do take precedence but most of the time something can be arranged so you can utilize the range also.

Most importantly, when you are at the range, respect the other shooters who may be out there at the same time.

Remember the tenant at the house is a member of the club and looking out for our interests, remember this if they should come out and ask you about being out there. If you get the opportunity tell them thanks for watching out for things.

If there is something else you’d like to see at YOUR East End Rod & Gun Club we invite you to join us at our monthly meetings. This year we have seen a slight increase in attendance at the meetings but a normal meeting only has about 10-20 members attending. Those people need your help to facilitate further range growth.

Club History

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

The East End Rod and Gun Club was started in July 16, 1947. Started by Harold Otto (President), Geo Heller (Vice President), and Vic Nyrgren (Secretary/Treasurer). The object was the promotion of the conservation of our natural resources, hunter safety education, the relations between sportsmen and landowner, and shooting sports among the citizens of our community.

We are constantly working to develop a plan for the use of the property and goals for what we would like to accomplish in the next several years.  We want to encourage everyone to come to the meetings and be an active participant in this decision making process.

In 2005, we graveled the road and a firing line.  In 2006 we installed concrete shooting benches along the firing line.  We also began Cowboy Town. In 2007 we obtained and ODFW grant for berming out to 400 yards and the permanent, handicap bathroom.  Our 2010 ODFW grant funds helped us get an automatic gate system.
